Indra's web

How everything is connected, really

shutterstock 131341070"Imagine a multidimensional spider's web in the early morning covered with dew drops. And every dew drop contains the reflection of all the other dew drops. And, in each reflected dew drop, the reflections of all the other dew drops in that reflection. And so ad infinitum. That is the Buddhist conception of the universe in an image." – Alan Watts

I love the idea of indra’s web, not only because it is so beautiful but because it represents the concept of connection between all things which is such a difficult idea to hold in our mind when we try and extend it to the other side of the planet.

When we imagine ourselves as one drop of dew on a spider’s web we notice how delicate that balance is and how one small breeze can tear it apart, let alone a hurricane. This is why I’m pulled so much to reach out to those in need. Those people I’ll probably never meet or hear a word of gratitude from. It really doesn’t matter because when we connect with someone in any way it’s another link in the web which makes us all stronger.
